Reasons for Discontinuation

It seems Yamaha has stopped selling the R3 and MT-03 motorcycles in India. Reports suggest that dealers nationwide have run out of stock and imports of these models have been put on hold.

Both motorcycles initially hit the market with high price tags, Rs. 4.65 lakh for the R3 and Rs. 4.60 lakh for the MT-03, ex-showroom. Earlier in the year, Yamaha reduced prices by Rs. 1.10 lakh to enhance competitiveness. A further Rs. 20,000 drop came after changes in GST. However, these price cuts didn’t boost their sales, and they were eventually discontinued.

The Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03 are brought into the country as Completely Built Units (CBU).

The YZF-R3 and MT-03, both imported via the CBU route. Both motorcycles use the same platform. The R3 is a fully-faired sports bike, while the MT-03 is its naked counterpart.

Both feature a 321cc parallel-twin engine that delivers 41.42 BHP and 29.5 Nm, paired with a 6-speed transmission. They come with an upside-down fork in the front and a mono-shock at the back. The braking system includes discs with dual-channel ABS support.
