Yamaha has officially unveiled the Yamaha R3 70th Anniversary Special Edition, a commemorative sportbike that celebrates seven decades of innovation, performance, and motorsports excellence. Available for 2026, this special edition is set to arrive in select international markets, blending the legendary red and white racing livery with the proven performance of Yamaha’s beloved entry level supersport.
The 70th Anniversary Yamaha R3 isn’t just another paint job, it’s a carefully crafted tribute to Yamaha’s storied racing history. The distinctive red and white color scheme draws inspiration from the iconic 1999 YZF-R7, a legendary machine that captured the hearts of racing fans worldwide and achieved significant success in the World Superbike Championship.
Yamaha’s decision to revisit this classic palette reflects the brand’s remarkable journey in global motorsports. Throughout its 70-year history, Yamaha has earned 39 Rider Titles, 37 Constructor Titles, and 7 Team Titles in the World Road Racing Championship alone; a legacy unmatched in depth and determination. From Kenny Roberts’ dominance in the 1970s to Valentino Rossi’s victories in the 2000s, and continuing with current MotoGP competitors like Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha’s DNA is fundamentally rooted in racing excellence.
The anniversary treatment centers on a clean white base complemented by bold red sections across the fairing, fuel tank, and tail. What truly sets this edition apart is a distinctive 3D effect red tile pattern on the side panels, adding visual depth and a premium appearance to the overall design.
Under the eye catching anniversary livery lies the same 321cc parallel twin, liquid-cooled engine that has made the R3 a popular choice for both learner riders and experienced track day enthusiasts. This powerplant delivers a smooth 40.4 bhp and 29.4 Nm of torque, paired with a 6 speed gearbox equipped with an assist and slipper clutch.
The R3’s handling credentials are anchored by a diamond-type chassis that perfectly balances rigidity and flexibility for precise cornering. Non-adjustable upside down forks at the front and a rear monoshock provide sport focused suspension geometry without unnecessary complexity.
Mounted on lightweight 17-inch alloy wheels, the R3 achieves a remarkably agile platform with an impressive 169kg curb weight and accessible 780mm seat height, making it genuinely approachable for new riders while remain engaging for experienced hands. Stopping power comes from disc brakes, reinforced with dual-channel ABS for confidence inspiring braking performance in all conditions.
The anniversary edition is minimal on technology. A vibrant TFT digital display, LED lighting throughout provides both superior visibility and the sharp aesthetic. In select markets, the R3 also features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing riders to access smartphone integration for navigation & notifications.
The 70th Anniversary R3 is currently set to arrive in select international markets throughout 2026. In India, where Yamaha previously sold the earlier R3 iteration at ₹3.39 lakh (ex-showroom), the availability of this anniversary edition remains uncertain.
